The Technology Assessment and Access Division (TAAD) aims to provide all Australians with access to cost-effective and high-quality medical products and services.

On 1 August 2017 a new structure came in to effect in the Health Benefits Group. This brought similar health technology assessment (HTA) functions together from both the Medical Benefits Division and Pharmaceutical Benefits Division (PBD). Subsequently, PBD was renamed to Technology Assessment and Access Division (TAAD) to reflect its revised scope. The new Office of Health Technology Assessment (OHTA) was also established and exists within TAAD.

This Division has four branches, two of which are under the Office of Health Technology Assessment (OHTA):

  • Pricing and Policy Branch
  • Pharmacy and Insurance Programs Branch
  • HTA Assessment Branch (OHTA)
  • HTA Policy Branch (OHTA)
